Doctors May Be Exempt From Trump Administration’s New $100,000 H-1B Visa Fee

The White House says that doctors and medical residents might not have to pay the Trump administration’s new $100,000 cost for high-skilled H-1B visa applications.

Taylor Rogers, a White House spokesperson, told Bloomberg News on Monday that “The Proclamation allows for possible exemptions, which can include doctors and medical residents.”

There is a lot of controversy and concern about the big rise in the cost of H-1B applications, which might affect thousands of talented workers, especially in the tech and healthcare fields.

The U.S. healthcare system may need some help, especially in rural and impoverished areas, where it relies largely on foreign-trained professionals to fill gaps. Exempting doctors and medical trainees could help.

In the next few weeks, the administration is likely to give further information about the breadth and process of these exemptions.
