In a deeply emotional post shared on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, global superstar Diljit Dosanjh reflected on his journey from a fan of the original Border (1997) to becoming a lead in the massive blockbuster sequel, Border 2.

The actor, who plays the legendary PVC Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, revealed that as a child in Punjab, he lacked the financial means to even experience the first film on the big screen.
“From TV Screen to the Silver Screen”
Diljit shared a “behind-the-scenes” video where he reminisced about the 1997 frenzy surrounding J.P. Dutta’s original masterpiece:
- No Money for Tickets: “There was so much buzz across the country… but we didn’t have the money to watch it in a theatre. My family wouldn’t have sent me anyway,” Diljit shared.
- The Long Wait: He revealed he had to wait months until the film finally premiered on television to see what the hype was about.
- Playing a Legend: Speaking on portraying India’s only Air Force Param Vir Chakra awardee, he said, “I don’t feel worthy… I am just grateful to Bhagwan (God) and Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon Ji for allowing me to play this character.”
Border 2: Box Office Juggernaut
Directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Bhushan Kumar and J.P. Dutta, the sequel has become a historic success within its first week:
- The 200 Crore Club: In just five days, the film has crossed the ₹200 crore mark at the domestic box office.
- Critical Acclaim: Critics have specifically praised Diljit’s portrayal for its “quiet dignity” and “high-octane aerial combat sequences.”
- The Ensemble: The film also stars Sunny Deol (reprising his role as a senior commander), Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty, creating a multi-generational appeal.
A Somber Context: State Mourning
While the film continues its record-breaking run, promotional events in Maharashtra have been paused. Following the tragic death of Deputy CM Ajit Pawar in a plane crash today, a three-day state mourning has been declared. Public figures across the industry, including those associated with Border 2, have extended their condolences to the Pawar family.
