Did Ranveer Singh’s Hamza Kill Rehman Dakait’s Son in Dhurandhar?

A new fan theory has taken over social media following Dhurandhar’s release on Netflix, with viewers re-examining a key scene and questioning whether Ranveer Singh’s character, Hamza Ali Mazari, secretly killed Rehman Dakait’s elder son. The theory has reignited debate around one of the film’s most ambiguous moments.

The speculation centres on a tense wedding shootout sequence set in Lyari, Pakistan, which marks Hamza’s first major action scene after spending over a year undercover. Amid the chaos, Hamza is assigned to protect Rehman Dakait’s son from an assassination attempt. The sequence ends without clearly revealing who fires the fatal shot, leading most viewers to assume Hamza failed in his mission.

However, an X user recently challenged that assumption, claiming Hamza himself pulled the trigger. The post quickly went viral, prompting intense discussion across social media platforms. Supporters of the theory point to Hamza’s subdued reactions after the incident and his behaviour following Rehman’s death as subtle hints of a darker, more morally complex arc.

Sceptics have pushed back, arguing that the film provides no concrete indication that Hamza deliberately killed the boy. Many also believe such a plot turn would clash with the conventions of mainstream spy thrillers, which rarely depict Indian agents committing such acts. Others feel the ambiguity is intentional, designed to provoke discussion rather than deliver definitive answers.

The ongoing debate highlights how Dhurandhar continues to engage audiences months after its theatrical release. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film also stars Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal and Sara Arjun. After grossing over ₹1,328 crore worldwide, the film has found renewed popularity on OTT, with its sequel scheduled for release on March 19.
