Despite a theatrical ban in Pakistan and several Gulf nations due to its sensitive geopolitical themes, Ranveer Singh’s blockbuster espionage thriller Dhurandhar has found a massive underground audience across the border.
Following its January 30, 2026 debut on Netflix, where it swiftly climbed to #1 in Pakistan, the film has now surfaced in the physical pirated markets of Karachi at an incredibly low price point.
The Karachi “DVD” Discovery
New Zealand-based YouTuber Karl Rock recently shared a viral video from Karachi’s famous Rainbow Centre, documenting the film’s unexpected physical presence:
- The Price: Pirated DVDs of the film are being sold for just PKR 50 (approximately ₹16).
- The “Sindhi” Connection: During the video, Rock noted that Ranveer Singh himself is of Sindhi descent, with grandparents who migrated from Karachi to India during the 1947 Partition.
- The Demand: Despite the official 2019 ban on Indian films in Pakistani cinemas, vendors confirmed that Dhurandhar is currently their “most requested” recent title.
A Global Streaming Powerhouse
The piracy surge follows the film’s record-breaking digital run. According to Netflix’s global data for early February 2026:
- #1 Globally: The film topped the global Top 10 non-English films list with 15.8 million views within its first 10 days of streaming.
- Middle East Dominance: Despite being “de facto” banned in the Gulf (UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman), it is currently the #1 trending movie on Netflix in those regions.
- Box Office Context: Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film earned over ₹1,349 crore during its theatrical run, which began on December 5, 2025.
The Franchise Future: Dhurandhar 2
The saga of undercover agent Jaskirat Singh Rangi (alias Hamza Ali Mazari) is set to continue soon.
- Release Date: Dhurandhar: The Revenge is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 19, 2026.
- Pre-Release Success: The sequel has already earned ₹245 crore through non-theatrical rights (Digital, Satellite, and Music) before even hitting screens.
- Box Office Clash: It is set for a massive holiday weekend clash with the pan-India film Toxic, starring Yash.
