Indian cricket legend and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) icon MS Dhoni will make his 400th T20 appearance during CSK’s crucial IPL 2025 face-off against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Chepauk Stadium on Friday. The match carries heavy stakes, with both teams languishing at the bottom of the table.
This landmark appearance will make Dhoni only the 24th player in history to play 400 or more T20 matches and the fourth Indian after Virat Kohli (407), Dinesh Karthik (412), and Rohit Sharma to achieve the feat.
Dhoni’s Glorious T20 Legacy
Across 399 T20s for India, CSK, Rising Pune Supergiant, and Jharkhand, Dhoni has accumulated 7,566 runs at an average of 38.02, with 28 half-centuries and a top score of 84 not out. He’s also contributed 318 dismissals as a wicketkeeper—solidifying his reputation as one of the game’s best finishers and glovemen.
In IPL history, Dhoni stands as the sixth-highest run-getter, with 5,377 runs in 272 matches, including 24 fifties. In IPL 2025 so far, he’s played the finisher’s role to perfection, scoring 134 runs at a strike rate of 152.27, with a highest of 30 not out.
High Stakes at Chepauk
With just two wins in eight matches, both CSK and SRH are fighting for survival. The loser of this match risks slipping out of playoff contention and ending up with the wooden spoon.
Despite the form slump, all eyes will be on “Thala” Dhoni, as CSK hopes to rally around their iconic captain in his milestone game. The Chepauk crowd is expected to be electric in what could be one of the defining moments of the season for CSK.
Legends of the Format
While Dhoni enters the 400-club, he still trails behind T20 greats like Kieron Pollard (695 matches), Dwayne Bravo (582), and Shoaib Malik (557) in total appearances.
