Dhanush is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Tere Ishk Mein, directed by Aanand L Rai and co-starring Kriti Sanon. The actor, currently on a promotional tour with his team, was in Delhi on Saturday, where he spoke about his character Shankar and the emotional tone of the role.
During an interaction with ANI, Dhanush revealed a remark made by Aanand L Rai and Kriti Sanon that stayed with him—they once told him he has “the face of a heartbroken man.” Instead of taking offence, the National Award-winning actor embraced the observation. “I have a great love-failure face… the face of a heartbroken man,” he said, calling it a compliment.
Talking about his character in Tere Ishk Mein, Dhanush shared that Shankar is “very easy to like” but comes with his own set of complex challenges. While he refrained from revealing plot-related details, he hinted that Shankar’s emotional depth is what drew him to the role.
“When an actor reads the script and sees these kinds of challenges, he jumps on it,” Dhanush said. “You feel, ‘Yes, this is what I’ve been waiting for.’ I can do something. It’s not just about memorising lines and saying them in front of the camera. I have to work on it. It’s nothing to do with aggression or anything. It’s just a good part with a lot of challenge.”
Dhanush has had a remarkably busy year across acting, directing, and production. He starred in Sekhar Kammula’s Kuberaa, released in Tamil and Telugu. He also wrote, directed, produced, and acted in Idli Kadai. In addition, he launched his nephew Pavish in the film Nilavaku En Mel Ennadi Kobam, which he also directed and produced.
Tere Ishk Mein, releasing on November 28, marks Dhanush’s final cinematic release of the year, closing an eventful 2025 for the acclaimed actor.
