Dhanashree Verma Jokes About ‘Gold Digger’ Trolls: ‘Now I Can’t Even Say I Like Gold

MUMBAI — Choreographer and actress Dhanashree Verma is making headlines for her appearance on the new reality show Rise And Fall, hosted by Ashneer Grover. In a recently released promo for the series, Verma subtly yet pointedly addressed the “gold digger” label she faced following her divorce from cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal.

Dhanashree and Yuzvendra Chahal, who married in 2020, officially finalized their divorce in March 2025. The high-profile separation was followed by intense online trolling against Dhanashree, with many accusing her of being a “gold digger.” The controversy was fueled by a number of public incidents, including Chahal’s appearance in a T-shirt that read “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy” on the day of their final court hearing, which many took as a direct jab at his ex-wife.

On Rise And Fall, which streams on Amazon MX Player, contestants are divided into two teams and tasked with choosing between a gold bag worth ₹2 lakh and a silver bag worth ₹1 lakh. During a segment, Dhanashree was paired with actor Arjun Bijlani. When Bijlani remarked, “Look, diamonds and silver don’t suit me. Gold suits me,” Dhanashree delivered a witty and ironic response that instantly went viral.

“I cannot say this line,” she quipped. “If I say this line, I won’t even get the love that I am going to get.”

The comment was a direct reference to the online vitriol she received after her divorce and was widely praised by her fans for its candidness. Dhanashree has previously spoken out against the online harassment, stating that people often label women without knowing the full story. Her latest remark on the reality show indicates she has learned to take the trolling in stride and even use it to her advantage.
