Mumbai: Shazia Iqbal’s Dhadak 2, a spiritual sequel and remake of the critically acclaimed Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal, has crossed the ₹10 crore mark at the box office over its opening weekend. The film, which stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, opened to positive reviews but is facing stiff competition from several other releases, most notably the runaway success Saiyaara.
Box Office Performance: The First Weekend
According to the latest reports from Sacnilk, Dhadak 2 has collected an estimated total of ₹11.02 crore over its first three days. The film began its theatrical run on Friday with an opening day collection of ₹3.5 crore, followed by a slight increase on Saturday, earning ₹3.75 crore. Early estimates for Sunday show a collection of approximately ₹3.77 crore, bringing the total to just over the ₹11 crore mark.
Despite this milestone, Dhadak 2 is struggling to keep pace with other films in the crowded box office landscape. The film is competing with the likes of Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardaar 2, the animated movie Mahavatar Narsimha, and Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda’s Saiyaara, which is in its third week of release.
Saiyaara continues to dominate, with a staggering Sunday collection of ₹8 crore, far surpassing Dhadak 2. With a total collection now exceeding ₹300 crore, Saiyaara has solidified its position as a blockbuster.
About the Film
Dhadak 2 is a poignant drama that explores the sensitive and relevant issue of caste-based discrimination. The story follows a law student who falls in love with a classmate, only to face harassment and prejudice from her family due to caste differences.
Actress Triptii Dimri spoke about the film’s important message. She highlighted the team’s conscious effort to create an entertaining film that also carries a sensitive social note. She also mentioned the added responsibility the cast felt in handling the film’s delicate subject matter, which is why they were “very quiet about everything” during its making.
