Devotion In The Air As Akharas Celebrate Shobha Yatra At Mahakumbh Mela In Prayagraj

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), January 4: A wave of spiritual fervor and devotion has taken over Prayagraj as preparations for the much-awaited Maha Kumbh Mela intensify. On Saturday, several Akharas participated in a grand Shobha Yatra, showcasing their devotion before entering the Maha Kumbh camp. The procession was a vibrant spectacle, with sadhus smeared in holy ash, wearing garlands, and riding horses.

One of the most prominent Akharas in the procession was the Niranjani Akhara, led by its Acharya, who sat atop an open-top vehicle. Other sadhus, carrying the Akhara’s flags, walked alongside, while Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti also joined the procession. Crowds lined the streets, eager to catch a glimpse of the revered sadhus, and flowers were showered in their honor. The Niranjani Akhara is known for its emphasis on yoga, meditation, and spiritual wisdom.

Speaking to ANI, former Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti encouraged people to visit the Mahakumbh Mela, describing it as an event that unites people through the spirit of Sanatan Dharma. “This Mahakumbh will be grander and more divine than the one in 2019,” she said, appealing to the public to witness the event. She also criticized Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav, claiming that during his tenure, the Kumbh was not properly attended to, with the responsibility being given to those who lacked faith in Sanatan Dharma.

A seer from the Niranjani Akhara explained the significance of the procession, stating, “Today, there is the Nagar Peshwai and Chawni Prawesh of the Niranjani Akhara, and our Naga Sanyasis are entering the Chawni, which signifies their entry into their cantonment.”

Several other Akharas, including Atal Akhara, Mahanirvani Akhara, Ahwan Akhara, and Juna Akhara—the largest in the Sanyasi tradition—have already arrived at the camp.

The Mahakumbh, held once every 12 years, is set to begin on January 13 and conclude on February 26 in Prayagraj. Key bathing rituals, known as the Shahi Snan (royal baths), will take place on January 14 (Makar Sankranti), January 29 (Mauni Amavasya), and February 3 (Basant Panchami).

In preparation for the massive event, Uttar Pradesh Police have deployed underwater drones and installed 2,700 AI-enabled cameras to ensure security around the Mahakumbh site.

Uttar Pradesh Minister JPS Rathore assured that Prayagraj is fully prepared to welcome over 45 crore devotees expected to attend the Maha Kumbh. “The Kumbh has been equipped with modern technology, and we are ready to welcome everyone,” he said. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has named the royal baths “Amrit Snan,” and many saints and sages are expected to attend.

Additionally, the Uttar Pradesh Culture Department will set up 20 small stages at key locations throughout Prayagraj, where folk dance performances from various Indian states will be held, providing visitors with a rich cultural experience over the 45 days of the event.
