Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has issued a blistering warning to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, following a wave of threats and a brazen shooting incident in Mumbai. Speaking on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, Fadnavis asserted that the Mumbai Police will “find and neutralize” any criminal elements attempting to establish a foothold or spread terror in the city.
The Chief Minister’s comments come amid high tension in the film industry following the targeted attack on filmmaker Rohit Shetty.
Firing at Rohit Shetty’s Residence
On February 1, 2026, five rounds were fired outside Shetty’s Juhu bungalow, one of which shattered the glass of a first-floor gym.
- MCOCA Invoked: On Wednesday, February 11, the Mumbai Police invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the five arrested individuals.
- The Mastermind: Police identify fugitive gangster Shubham Lonkar as the mastermind. Lonkar is also a wanted suspect in the October 2024 murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique.
- The Arms Supplier: One of the arrested men, Asaram (Asharam) Fasle alias Babu, was identified as a long-term Bishnoi gang member who worked as a garage mechanic for four years before supplying the weapons used in the Juhu shooting.
Expanding Threat Circle: Salman Khan and Ranveer Singh
The investigation has revealed a wider conspiracy to extort and intimidate high-profile celebrities.
- Ranveer Singh: The actor reportedly received a threatening WhatsApp voice note demanding a staggering ₹10 crore. Police have since beefed up security at his Worli residence, though this move has caused friction with his housing society’s management.
- Salman Khan: A close relative of the actor, who is also a member of the film industry, reportedly received a threat email this week claiming links to the Bishnoi syndicate and demanding “crores of rupees.”
- Modus Operandi: Gang members used encrypted platforms like Signal to communicate, according to the Anti-Extortion Cell.
Government Stance
Fadnavis reassured the public that Mumbai remains a “zero-tolerance zone” for organized crime. He noted that law enforcement agencies are currently verifying whether every threat is genuinely from the Bishnoi gang or if “copycat” criminals are exploiting the situation to create panic.
“Mumbai Police has a history of dismantling the underworld. No gang will be allowed to hold the city to ransom. Those who fire bullets will face the law in its harshest form,” Fadnavis stated.
