Hackers broke into the official X (previously Twitter) account of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday and posted pictures of the flags of Pakistan and Turkey from his account. The event happened on the same day as the India-Pakistan Asia Cup match, which has prompted severe worries about cybersecurity.
An official from the Deputy CM’s office acknowledged the intrusion and said that the hackers also live-streamed pictures of the two countries. “We called the cybercrime police right away. The official said, “Our team in charge of the Dy CM’s X handle later got the account back.”
The posts that weren’t allowed were quickly deleted after the infiltration was discovered, and the problem was fixed in 30 to 40 minutes. The technical team’s rapid action helped to get rid of the content and protect the account.
This isn’t the only time this has happened; it shows a trend of cybersecurity holes that are targeting politicians in India. In May 2024, the X account of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee was also hacked. The name was changed to “Tesla Event,” and the profile image was changed to the Tesla logo.
