Dense Fog Grips Delhi-NCR, Airport and Airlines Issue Travel Advisories Amid Severe Air Quality

Dense fog continued to blanket Delhi and Noida on Sunday, severely reducing visibility and prompting travel advisories from the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport and major airlines. The foggy conditions coincided with worsening air quality, as Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) once again slipped into the ‘severe’ category.

Delhi airport operator DIAL issued a late-night advisory, informing passengers that low visibility procedures were in progress at IGI Airport. In a post shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle at around 11.03 pm, DIAL said that while flight operations were currently normal, passengers were advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest updates on flight schedules.

According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board’s Sameer app, Delhi’s AQI stood at 404 at around 11.20 pm, categorising the air quality as ‘severe’.

Amid the deteriorating weather conditions, airlines also issued warnings to travellers. Air India released a fresh advisory late Saturday night, cautioning passengers about possible disruptions in flight operations due to dense fog and low visibility across parts of northern India, including Delhi. The airline stated that weather forecasts indicated intense fog during the early morning hours, which could impact departures and arrivals.

Other airlines, including SpiceJet, also urged passengers to remain alert and check flight statuses before heading to the airport, as fog-related delays are common during winter months in the national capital.

Passengers travelling to or from Delhi-NCR have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra time, as foggy conditions and poor air quality continue to disrupt normal movement.
