Dense Fog Disrupts Train Services And Causes Cold Wave In North India

A thick layer of fog continues to cover much of North India, leading to significant disruptions in train services and an ongoing cold wave in several states.

Train Delays and Cancellations:

  • Due to the dense fog, train services across various regions are facing major delays and cancellations. Ayodhya Railway has reported cancellations and diversions of multiple trains.
  • In Agra, the iconic Taj Mahal is enveloped in a thin layer of fog, adding to the chilly atmosphere of the region.
  • Passengers at railway stations, such as Sumit Kumar from Bihar, have reported delays of one to two hours due to reduced visibility caused by the fog. Nisha, another passenger, expressed discomfort as all trains in the region were running late due to the fog and cold.

Cold Wave in Delhi:

  • Delhi is experiencing a cold wave, with temperatures dropping to 11.6°C at 5:30 am. The India Meteorological Department forecasts a minimum of 8°C and a maximum of 19°C with dense fog persisting throughout the day.
  • The cold wave has led to an increase in people seeking refuge at night shelters to protect themselves from the biting winds. 235 pagoda tents have been set up by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) to accommodate the homeless, with shelters established in locations like AIIMS, Lodhi Road, and Nizamuddin flyover.

Impact on Train Operations:

  • The dense fog continues to disrupt railway operations across North India. Approximately 25 trains, including well-known services such as Poorva Express, Vikramshila Express, and RJPB Tejas Express, are running behind their scheduled times.

As the fog persists, commuters and travelers are advised to stay updated on train schedules and prepare for prolonged travel times due to the ongoing disruptions in the region.
