Demi Moore Delivers Powerful Speech In Golden Globe Acceptance

Los Angeles [US], January 6: Demi Moore took home the Golden Globe for Best Female Actor Performance in a Comedy or Musical on Sunday for her role in The Substance. The 62-year-old actress moved the audience with a heartfelt speech, evoking cheers from the crowd.

“I really wasn’t expecting this,” Moore said, visibly emotional. “I’ve been doing this for over 45 years, and this is the first time I’ve ever won anything as an actor. I’m just so humbled and grateful.”

In her speech, Moore reflected on her long career, including a moment where a producer once dismissed her as a “popcorn actress” 30 years ago. “At that time, I made that mean that this wasn’t something I was allowed to have,” she shared. “I could do successful movies, but I couldn’t be acknowledged. I bought into that and believed it, and it corroded me over time.”

She added that, at a low point in her life, she received an unconventional script for The Substance, which she described as “magical, bold, courageous, and absolutely bonkers.” This marked a turning point for Moore, who felt that the universe was telling her she wasn’t finished yet.

Moore concluded her speech with a powerful message: “In those moments when we don’t think we’re smart enough, pretty enough, skinny enough, or successful enough — basically, just not enough — this movie reminds us that we are more than enough.”

The actress dedicated her win to her sense of “wholeness,” sharing a piece of advice she once received: “Just know you will never be enough, but you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick.”

“This award is a marker of my wholeness, of the love that drives me, and for the gift of doing something I love,” she said before thanking the audience and exiting the stage.

This Golden Globe win marks Moore’s third nomination, but her first win in many years. She was previously recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for her roles in Ghost (1990) and the TV movie If These Walls Could Talk (1996).
