Delhi Witnesses Zero Fatal Accidents On New Year’s Eve For The First Time In Years

For the first time in years, Delhi celebrated New Year’s Eve without a single fatal road accident, thanks to strict police arrangements and heightened public awareness. Special CP Traffic Ajay Chaudhary credited the milestone to comprehensive measures and increased adherence to advisories.

Speaking to media, Chaudhary said:

“This is the first time after many years that no fatal accident was reported in the entire Delhi on the night of December 31. Police arrangements were very strict and people are also following the police advisory, their sense of responsibility has increased.”

Elaborate Security Measures

Delhi Police deployed over 600 personnel alongside multiple companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to ensure a secure environment for celebrations. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Devesh Kumar Mahala highlighted the focus on safety and vigilance:

“We had made extensive arrangements this time given the New Year. More than 600 policemen were deployed, and several companies of CAPF were also deployed.”

Women’s safety was a top priority, with women police personnel stationed at key locations to address concerns and ensure a secure atmosphere.

Intensive Vigilance in South West District

The South West District Police rolled out extensive security measures, anticipating large gatherings. The initiatives included:

  • 27 traffic checkpoints equipped with breath analyzers for road safety.
  • 57 fortified pickets monitoring vehicular movement and suspect activities.
  • Deployment of 14 Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) and 16 Police Control Room (PCR) vans at strategic locations.
  • Heightened police presence at 35 celebration venues and 15 popular spots, such as malls, motels, and cinema halls.

Hauz Khas Village, a popular party destination, witnessed high-visibility police deployment to ensure the safety of revellers.

According to Surendra Choudhary, IPS, security staff were also stationed at 21 bus stops, 60 motorcycle patrol routes, and eight prominent hotels to maintain public safety.
