Delhi Wakes Up To Heavy Rains, IMD Predicts Intense Downpour For Next Seven Days

NEW DELHI – On the morning of July 29, 2025, parts of Delhi woke up to heavy rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a “nowcast” saying that there would be a strong downpour for the next two hours. The regional Met Center also said that this rain is anticipated to last for seven more days, until August 3, bringing a lot of monsoon activity to the national capital region.

The IMD’s most recent nowcast says, “Intense to very intense spells of rain are very likely to continue over many parts of Delhi and NCR for the next 1–2 hours.” Pictures from places like Rajaji Marg showed the city being hit by severe rain.

The IMD’s regional center in New Delhi says that the weather for the day would be “generally cloudy.” Most places will get light rain, while some spots may have moderate rain with thunder and lightning.

The forecast for the days from July 31 to August 3 says, “Partly cloudy sky.” There will be very mild to light rain with thunder and lightning. This means that the amount of rain will be steady, though it may change from day to day.

On Monday, a lot of rain fell in many regions of the national capital, causing flooding in many areas of the city. People who were trying to get to work had trouble getting around on flooded roads, especially in low-lying areas, and there were reports of traffic jams. During this time of heavy monsoon activity, civic authorities should be on high alert to deal with possible flooding and keep the city running smoothly. Residents should take the necessary steps to stay safe and check traffic updates before they leave.
