At least six people, including three children, lost their lives and several others were seriously injured on Wednesday morning after a massive fire tore through a multi-storey residential building in southwest Delhi. The incident occurred near Shri Ram Chowk, in close proximity to the Palam Metro station, sending plumes of thick smoke across the neighborhood.
The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received an emergency call at approximately 7:00 AM reporting a blaze in Gali Number-2. In response, a massive fleet of 30 fire tenders was dispatched to the location to battle the flames and initiate a high-stakes rescue operation. Officials noted that the full scale of the tragedy would only be confirmed once the cooling and search operations were finalized.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest) Amit Goel, nearly a dozen residents were initially trapped inside the structure as the fire spread. Police personnel joined forces with firefighters to evacuate the building and manage the surrounding crowds. The injured have been moved to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.
