New Delhi: The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive advisory announcing the closure of several major routes in the national capital until 8 AM on July 23. This measure is being implemented to facilitate the safe passage of pilgrims during the final stages of the Kanwar Yatra.
According to a post by the Delhi Traffic Police on X (formerly Twitter), the left carriageway of GT Road from the Keshav Chowk roundabout to Yudhishthir Setu (ISBT) will remain closed to vehicular movement from 8 AM on Monday, July 21, until 8 AM on Wednesday, July 23.

Due to Kanwar Yatri arrangements, the following roads will be closed from July 21, 2025, 8:00 AM to July 23, 2025, 8:00 AM:
1. GT Road from Apsara Border to Shahdara
2. Seemapuri to Apsara Border
3. Anand Vihar to Apsara Border
4. GT Road to Vivek Vihar…
In addition to this, a separate advisory detailed further restrictions:
- GT Road from Apsara Border to Shahdara will remain closed.
- The stretch from Seemapuri to Apsara Border will be completely shut to traffic.
- Anand Vihar to Apsara Border will also be restricted until 8 AM on July 23.
- GT Road to Vivek Vihar Underpass will be closed, with no traffic permitted.
- Traffic from Swami Dayanand Marg to Keshav Chowk (towards GT Road) will be restricted.
- Pusta Road to Shastri Park will not be accessible.
“Commuters are advised to avoid these stretches and follow alternative routes,” the Delhi Traffic Police urged in their X post.
Alternative Routes Advised:
For commuters on Swami Dayanand Marg heading towards the ISBT, alternative routes include taking the Keshav Chowk underpass to Maujpur, or making a U-turn at Shyam Chowk to reach ISBT via Vikas Marg or the Master Plan Road.
Vehicles from Seelampur T-Point should use Road No-66 for Wazirabad Road access. Those approaching from Dharampura T-Point may continue on Road No 66 or divert through the Keshav Chowk underpass to Vikas Marg.
Traffic from the Old Iron Bridge towards GT Road is being rerouted via Kailash Nagar and Gandhi Nagar to the Pusta Road corridor. Commuters from Shastri Park Pusta Road can join GT Road at Shastri Park and continue to Road No 66 or via the Keshav Chowk underpass to Vikas Marg.
Lastly, traffic attempting to access GT Road from Khajoori Chowk will be regulated and diverted to Wazirabad Road for onward movement to ISBT.
The Delhi Traffic Police has strongly advised commuters to plan their journeys in advance and avoid the restricted zones to prevent congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow. They appealed for public cooperation, stating, “Follow traffic diversions and cooperate with authorities during the Kanwar Yatra. Your support ensures the safety of both Kanwariyas and commuters.”
