New Delhi [India], June 27: The Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory in view of the Jagannath Rath Yatra being celebrated on Friday. Traffic in the Hauz Khas area will be regulated or diverted between 2 PM and 6 PM, particularly on Aurobindo Marg and its adjoining routes.
The advisory highlights key restrictions from the IIT Flyover to the AIIMS Loop, with potential congestion anticipated on the Outer Ring Road, Ring Road, and August Kranti Marg. “Please plan your commute accordingly,” the advisory urged.
The traffic regulation coincides with the 47th annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, which is also being celebrated in Puri, Odisha, where thousands of devotees gathered at the Jagannath Temple early Friday morning.
The festival marks the grand procession of Lord Jagannath, along with his siblings Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra, as their chariots are drawn by devotees toward the Gundicha Temple. The deities stay there for a week before returning to the Jagannath Temple.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his wishes on the occasion via his official ‘X’ handle (formerly Twitter). “On the sacred occasion of Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra, my heartfelt best wishes to all fellow countrymen. May this holy festival of faith and devotion bring happiness, prosperity, good fortune, and excellent health to everyone’s life. Jai Jagannath!” his post read.
As the Rath Yatra draws massive crowds, both in Delhi and Puri, traffic management and public safety remain key priorities for authorities throughout the day.
