NEW DELHI – On Monday, several schools in the national capital were put on high alert after getting emails saying that bombs had been planted on their property. Delhi Public School (DPS) in Dwarka, ShreeRam World School (Dwarka Sector 10), and Modern Convent School all verified that they had received threats. This led to a quick response from the police and fire service.
School officials quickly told parents as a safety measure, and students and staff were evacuated. DPS Dwarka sent a message to parents that said, “School is closed today [Monday] because of circumstances that cannot be avoided.”
Police and bomb disposal teams hurried to the schools that were affected to search and set up barriers. A Delhi Police officer said that thus far, nothing strange has been detected. This event is part of a worrying trend of similar threats against schools in Delhi. In July, fake bomb threats were sent to more than 45 schools and three institutions for four days in a row. Last year, a similar mass email threat scared more than 300 schools in the Delhi-National Capital Region. All of them turned out to be fake.
Authorities are taking the most recent threats very seriously, following all the right steps, and looking into where the emails came from. Parents and school workers are more worried about the safety and security of pupils because these events keep happening.
