Delhi Records Coldest November In 5 Years, Average Minimum Temperature Drops To 11.5°C

New Delhi: Delhi has just experienced its coldest November in five years, with the monthly average minimum temperature slipping to 11.5 degrees Celsius, according to data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Comparative data shows a clear downward temperature trend.

  • In November 2024, the average minimum temperature was 14.7°C
  • In 2023, it was 12°C
  • In 2022, 12.3°C
  • In 2021, 11.9°C

This year’s minimum has therefore been the lowest since 2019, highlighting an unusually cool start to Delhi’s winter.

Day Temperatures Also Lower Than Last Year

The seasonal chill was not limited to night-time temperatures. Daytime conditions also stayed cooler compared to previous years.

  • The average maximum temperature this November stood at 27.7°C,
notably lower than 29.4°C recorded in November 2023.

The lowest maximum temperature this month was 25.1°C, contributing to a string of pleasantly cool days across the national capital.

November Completely Dry For Second Year In A Row

Delhi did not record a single rainy day in November 2024, continuing a dry spell identical to last year’s post-monsoon period. By contrast, November 2023 had two rainy days, which had slightly moderated winter onset.

Coldest Morning Of The Month At 8°C

According to IMD data, the city’s lowest minimum temperature this November was 8°C, compared with 9.5°C in 2024 and 9.2°C in 2023, underscoring this year’s sharper dip in early winter temperatures.

On Saturday, the national capital logged a minimum of 10.4°C—one notch above normal—and a maximum of 26.5°C, slightly (0.5 notches) above normal. The IMD has forecast fog for Sunday morning as the cold spell continues.
