New Delhi [India], March 21: In a move aimed at improving the drainage system in the national capital, Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma has suspended an executive engineer (XEN) while conducting inspections of the city’s drainage infrastructure
“The cleaning of drains is the responsibility of the PWD department, and this is not being carried out properly. Therefore, I have ordered the suspension of the XEN in charge. All officers have been clearly instructed that failure to perform their duties will lead to action. We cannot allow Delhi, our capital, to be neglected,” Verma said while addressing the media.
The minister highlighted the severe breakdown of the city’s infrastructure over the past decade, asserting that immediate and strict measures are required. “The entire system of Delhi has deteriorated in the last 10 years, and we have issued strict instructions to government officials that negligence will not be tolerated. The newly elected government is committed to hard work, and we are on the streets to make sure things improve,” he added.
Verma emphasized that while several challenges remain, the government is determined to fix the issues and hold officers accountable for their work. “We are making all officers work. The system had almost collapsed, and those who haven’t performed in the past 10 years will be held accountable. We are out on the ground, and negligence will not be tolerated,” he stated.
Assuring the public of the government’s commitment to resolving these problems, Verma further mentioned that the entire system in Delhi needs to be overhauled. “We will change the existing system, and no effort will be spared. Officers who have become complacent will be held accountable, and they will work on the ground,” he concluded.
