Delhi Police Launches ‘Operation Prahaar’ Ahead Of Assembly Elections To Combat Crime

New Delhi [India], January 13 : In a major crackdown on organized crime, the Delhi Police’s Outer District launched “Operation Prahaar,” a week-long intensive drive from January 6 to January 12, 2025. The operation, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sachin Sharma, targeted illegal liquor trade, narcotics trafficking, arms smuggling, and gambling syndicates.

DCP Sharma confirmed that during the operation, several arms and ammunition were seized, with 8 cases registered under the Arms Act and 10 arrests made. Authorities recovered four country-made pistols, one additional pistol, five live cartridges, one empty cartridge, and three button-actuated knives. In addition, stolen vehicles—including a motorcycle, a scooty, and a mobile phone—were recovered.

Coordinated raids across vulnerable areas successfully disrupted illegal gambling activities. The police registered 10 cases under the Delhi Public Gambling Act and arrested 40 individuals. Cash worth Rs 1,11,280 was seized, along with gambling materials such as satta slips, notepads, and playing cards.

In a concerted effort to combat the illegal liquor trade, 41 cases were registered under the Delhi Excise Act, leading to the arrest of 39 bootleggers and suppliers. Police also seized 11,963 quarters of illicit liquor, 17 bottles of beer, as well as two cars, one vehicle, and one motorcycle.

As part of the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan,” the operation also focused on drug traffickers. Seven cases under the NDPS Act were registered, resulting in the arrest of six individuals and the seizure of 4.235 kg of ganja and 22 grams of smack.

Leveraging both human and technical intelligence, the police also apprehended one proclaimed offender during the operation, highlighting their commitment to law enforcement.

In addition to the targeted raids, preventive measures were enforced across the Outer District. A total of 227 individuals were booked for drinking in public under Section 40A of the Delhi Excise Act. Furthermore, 136 individuals were booked under Sections 107/151 of the CrPC, and 72 people were booked under the Delhi Police Act for various violations.
