New Delhi [India]: In a major breakthrough, Delhi Police on Sunday arrested three members of an inter-state human trafficking syndicate and rescued a newborn baby boy, estimated to be just 3–4 days old. The gang was allegedly involved in smuggling infants from Gujarat and Rajasthan and selling them to affluent families in Delhi NCR.
The accused have been identified as Yashmin (30), wife of Md. Nadeem; Anjali (36), wife of Nitin Kumar; and Jitender (47), son of the late Dhanna Lal. Authorities noted that Anjali had previously been involved in a similar case.
The Special Staff of Dwarka District had been monitoring the network for nearly three weeks after receiving a tip-off about the suspected trafficking operation. Investigators analyzed the call records of over 20 suspected mobile numbers and conducted surveillance on the suspects.
On April 8, 2025, the police detained the trio from the Uttam Nagar area of Delhi. A newborn baby boy, believed to be 3–4 days old, was found in their possession.
A formal case was registered at the Uttam Nagar Police Station under FIR No. 178/25, dated April 8. The charges include violations under Sections 143(4), 61(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 81 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dwarka, Ankit Singh, revealed that the accused admitted to working under the direction of a woman named Saroj.
“During interrogation, they disclosed that on the instructions of gang leader Saroj, they, along with their associates, brought newborns from Rajasthan and Gujarat and used to sell them to rich families in Delhi for around Rs 5-10 lakh,” he said.
Police have launched a deeper investigation to trace the biological parents of the rescued infant, as well as to apprehend Saroj—the alleged mastermind—and other accomplices involved in the trafficking network.
