Delhi Police Arrest 11, Probe 10 Influencers in Turkman Gate Violence Linked to Anti-Encroachment Drive

Delhi Police have intensified investigations into the violence that erupted during an anti-encroachment drive near the Faiz-e-Elahi Mosque in the Turkman Gate area of central Delhi. The unrest, which occurred on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, involved stone-pelting against authorities and left five police personnel injured, including the local station house officer.

So far, 11 people have been arrested in connection with the clashes. The latest six arrests include Afaan, Adil, Shahnawaz, Hamza, Atharr, and Ubed, all residents of Turkman Gate. Earlier, five other men—Mohammad Arib, Kashif, Adnan, Mohammad Kaif, and Sameer—were remanded to 13 days of judicial custody by Judicial Magistrate Pooja Suhag.

Authorities have also identified 10 social media influencers who allegedly spread misinformation about the demolition drive. One female influencer was summoned for questioning after police found a video she shared falsely claiming that a mosque in the Ramlila Maidan area had been demolished. Misleading posts, videos, and audio messages circulated on WhatsApp reportedly fueled panic, leading to clashes during the court-ordered drive carried out by the MCD.

Police continue to monitor social media and WhatsApp channels to track the spread of false information as the probe into the Turkman Gate violence expands.
