New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for Delhi on Tuesday, forecasting light to moderate rainfall across the national capital and surrounding NCR areas including Noida, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad on Wednesday.
According to IMD’s latest weather bulletin, Delhi is likely to experience a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds ranging between 30–40 kmph on June 25.
The maximum temperature in the capital is expected to hover between 33°C and 35°C, which is 2–4°C below normal. The minimum temperature recorded on Wednesday morning was 29.6°C, while the maximum on Tuesday stood at 36.1°C. IMD noted that surface winds will be primarily southeasterly, picking up speed during the evening and night to reach 20–25 kmph.
On Tuesday, Delhi witnessed 4.1 mm of rainfall. Humidity levels were high, with a maximum of 91% and minimum at 66%, adding to the muggy conditions across the city.
The update was also shared on IMD’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating:
“Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall very likely at isolated places over Coastal Karnataka, East Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Interior Karnataka, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan Muzaffarabad, Kerala & Mahe, Madhya Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu Puducherry & Karaikal, Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh.”
Additionally, Delhi’s neighbouring states — Punjab, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh — are also expected to see isolated heavy rainfall between June 25 and July 1. Rajasthan, in particular, may witness very heavy rains from June 25 to 29, the IMD noted.
After battling extreme summer conditions with temperatures touching 45°C, Delhiites can now expect relief from heatwave conditions as no such warnings have been issued for this week.
