Delhi Man Detained For False Claim On Pahalgam Terror Attack; India Responds with Diplomatic And Security Measures Against Pakistan

New Delhi [India], April 24: A 51-year-old man from Delhi, who claimed to have had prior information about the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, has been detained by the Delhi Police after his allegations were found to be completely baseless, officials said Thursday.

The individual, identified as Subodh Tyagi, made a late-night call from Delhi’s Shakarpur area, prompting an urgent investigation by the police and security agencies including the Intelligence Bureau (IB). Tyagi, a driver by profession, was found to be intoxicated during the call, with a blood alcohol level of 237/100 ml, police stated.

Authorities concluded that his claims were fabricated under the influence of alcohol, causing unnecessary panic and wasting critical resources during an already sensitive time.

The terror attack at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, is one of the deadliest in recent years, claiming the lives of 26 people, including one Nepali national, and wounding many others. It is being compared to the 2019 Pulwama attack that killed 40 CRPF jawans.

In retaliation, the Indian government has taken a firm diplomatic and strategic stance against Pakistan:

  • Indus Waters Treaty (1960) has been suspended until further notice.
  • The integrated checkpost at Attari, Punjab, is being shut down immediately.
  • SAARC visa exemptions will no longer apply to Pakistani nationals.

These decisions were made following a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the meeting, officials briefed the CCS on cross-border terrorism links to the Pahalgam attack.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, in a press briefing, reiterated India’s resolve to hold perpetrators and their backers accountable, emphasizing that these steps aim to send a strong message to Pakistan and reaffirm India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism.

Meanwhile, victims’ families continue to mourn, urging the government to take strong, decisive action against those responsible for the brutal killings.
