Delhi LG VK Saxena Revises Govt Work Hours Amid Improved Air Quality; Orders Probe Into Mustafabad Building Collapse

Amid notable improvement in Delhi’s pollution levels, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has implemented changes to the working hours for officials in the Delhi Government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). According to a release issued from Raj Niwas, the decision aims to streamline working hours in response to better environmental conditions in the capital.

New Office Timings (Effective Immediately):

  • Delhi Government Employees: 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM (Earlier: 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM)
  • MCD Employees: 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM (Earlier: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM)

This shift not only reflects improved air quality but also aims to enhance administrative efficiency across departments.

Inquiry into Mustafabad Tragedy

On a more somber note, LG Saxena also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the Mustafabad building collapse that occurred on April 19, resulting in 11 fatalities and multiple injuries.

The collapse happened at D-26, Gali No. 1, Shakti Vihar, a building located in an unauthorised colony in northeast Delhi’s Dayalpur locality. The building, reportedly 20 years old, collapsed while residents were asleep.

Official Statement & Enquiry Details:

As per Raj Niwas:

“The District Magistrate of North East Delhi has been entrusted with the inquiry and must submit a detailed report within 15 days.”

The enquiry will:

  • Investigate the circumstances leading to the collapse
  • Identify any lapses or violations related to building safety
  • Determine accountability among individuals or bodies involved in construction and oversight

Authorities are also inspecting surrounding structures to assess their integrity and prevent further incidents in the densely populated area.
