Delhi LG VK Saxena Expresses Sorrow Over New Delhi Railway Station Stampede

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Sunday expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede at New Delhi Railway Station, which resulted in multiple injuries and loss of lives.

The LG assured that he is personally monitoring the situation to ensure that all necessary support is provided to the affected families.

Taking to social media platform X, Saxena posted, “There has been an unfortunate and tragic incident of loss of lives and injuries due to disorder & stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. My deepest condolences to the families of victims of this tragedy.”

In response to the incident, LG Saxena directed Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner to take immediate action. The Chief Secretary was instructed to invoke the Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) measures and deploy relief personnel at the site to manage the situation effectively.

“Have spoken to Chief Secretary & Police Commissioner and asked them to address and redress the situation. CS has been asked to invoke DDMA measures & deploy relief personnel. All hospitals are in readiness to address related exigencies,” he stated.

To ensure timely medical attention, all hospitals in the vicinity have been put on high alert. Additionally, LG Saxena instructed the Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner to be physically present at the site and oversee the relief measures.

“Have instructed CS & CP to be at the site and take control of relief measures. I am constantly monitoring operations,” he added.

Later, LG Saxena visited the LNJP Hospital, where those injured in the stampede were receiving medical treatment. Speaking to reporters outside the hospital, he assured the public that train movements had resumed and the situation was now under control.

“Those injured are receiving treatment at the hospital. Delhi police are at the railway station. Train movements are normal now. The situation is under control…,” he stated.

The stampede, which occurred on Saturday due to a massive rush at New Delhi Railway Station, left around 15 people injured. As part of emergency response efforts, four fire tenders were deployed to the scene, according to the Delhi Fire Service.
