New Delhi [India], February 5: Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, Vinai Kumar Saxena, cast his vote in the ongoing Delhi Assembly elections at a polling booth in St Xavier’s School on Wednesday. Saxena called for a high voter turnout, urging the people of Delhi to set a record in voting. “I have appealed to the people of Delhi to vote in large numbers. I want the people of Delhi to create a record in the voting,” he told ANI after casting his ballot.
The Lieutenant Governor stressed that this election was crucial for the future of the city, citing significant issues like pollution, garbage management, and the cleaning of the Yamuna River. “There are many issues on people’s radar—pollution, garbage mountains, cleaning of Yamuna. I am confident that people will vote with these issues in mind,” he said.
Saxena’s wife, Sangita Saxena, also cast her vote, emphasizing the need for comprehensive development in the capital. She urged citizens to participate in the election and reminded them that voting was a civic duty, not a holiday. “Please come out and vote. This is not a holiday but a day of duty. We need all-round development in Delhi,” she said.
As of 9 am, the voter turnout in Delhi was reported at 8.10%, with North East district recording the highest turnout at 10.70%. New Delhi, however, had a slower turnout of 6.51%.
