Delhi LG Inaugurates NDMC Flower Festival 2025, Envisions A “City of Flowers”

New Delhi [India], March 1: Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena inaugurated the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Flower Festival 2025 at Central Park in Connaught Place on Saturday. The event showcased a vibrant display of various flowers, symbolizing the city’s rich flora.

During the inauguration, Saxena expressed his excitement about the diversity of flowers on display and shared his vision for Delhi’s future. He stated, “NDMC has started a very beautiful flower show, which was inaugurated today. Different types of flowers have been planted and displayed here. I had said that it is my dream to make Delhi a city of flowers, and now, after the change of government, everything is going very well. We will definitely fulfill this dream…”

The Flower Festival aims to promote the beauty of nature while fostering environmental awareness among the public. Saxena’s ambition to make Delhi a “city of flowers” aligns with ongoing efforts to green the city and improve its public spaces.

Meanwhile, on February 27, a controversy arose in the Delhi Assembly after 12 AAP MLAs, including Opposition Leader Atishi, were suspended for disrupting the LG’s address with slogans and protests. The protests were in response to claims regarding the removal of portraits of Dr BR Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh from the Chief Minister’s office, which the BJP countered by releasing an image showing that the portraits were still present, albeit relocated.

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta condemned the disruption, calling it a “gross violation” of the assembly’s decorum. The suspension of the opposition MLAs has sparked criticism from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has accused the ruling BJP of attempting to stifle dissent in the Assembly.
