Delhi High Court rejects plea of Lalu Prasad Yadav in land-for-jobs case

The Delhi High Court has dismissed a petition filed by Lalu Prasad Yadav seeking to quash the FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the alleged land-for-jobs case.

The court ruled that the plea lacked merit and clarified that prior approval under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act was not necessary for initiating the probe.

The case relates to alleged irregular appointments in Indian Railways during Yadav’s tenure as railway minister (2004–2009), where jobs were allegedly given in exchange for land parcels transferred to his family members and associates.

Earlier, the trial court had framed charges of corruption and criminal conspiracy against Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, and other family members. The CBI has maintained that the actions were not part of official duties, justifying the investigation.
