Delhi HC Quashes FIR Against Man For Staring At Woman On Flight After Settlement

New Delhi [India], June 5: The Delhi High Court has quashed an FIR filed against a man accused of persistently staring at a woman on a flight from Indore to Delhi earlier this year, after the court noted that both parties had reached an amicable settlement.

The FIR, registered on May 29, 2024, at IGI Airport Police Station under Section 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), alleged that the accused had made the complainant uncomfortable during a flight on May 28, 2024, by continuously staring at her. Upon landing, the woman lodged a formal complaint with airport police.

However, during proceedings, Justice Ravinder Dudeja quashed the FIR on May 30, acknowledging that the matter had been peacefully resolved between the two parties.

“Given the aforesaid circumstances and the fact that parties have put a quietus to the dispute, no useful purpose will be served in continuing with the present FIR,” Justice Dudeja stated in his order.

Advocate Sanjeev Malik, appearing for the accused, informed the court that both parties had reached a settlement agreement on December 16, 2024, with the support of mutual acquaintances. The agreement was also submitted to the court.

The complainant’s counsel confirmed that the settlement was voluntary and without any coercion or pressure, and said the complainant had no objection to the FIR being quashed.

The Additional Public Prosecutor, representing the State, also raised no objection to the quashing of the FIR and the associated charge sheet, given the mutual resolution of the matter.
