Delhi Enforces Centre’s Order To Expel Pakistani Nationals Amid Post-Pahalgam Terror Crackdown

New Delhi [India]: Aligning with the Centre’s hardline response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, the Delhi Government has announced immediate implementation of the Central Government’s directive ordering Pakistani nationals to leave India.

The move comes in the aftermath of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives, including one Nepali citizen, and left many others injured.

Visas Revoked With Immediate Effect

According to an official release from the Home Department of the Government of NCT of Delhi:

“All existing valid visas, except Medical, Long Term, Diplomatic, and Official visas issued by Government of India to Pakistani nationals stand revoked with immediate effect from April 27, 2025.”

Furthermore, existing medical visas will expire on April 29, after which no new visas will be issued to Pakistani citizens.

Part of a Broader Diplomatic and Security Response

This visa revocation is part of a broader diplomatic and security retaliation announced by the Indian government, including:

  • Suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, a key bilateral agreement dating back to 1960.
  • Closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari, halting formal trade and transit.
  • Cancellation of all visas issued under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES).
  • Declaration of Pakistani Defence, Naval, and Air Advisors in India as Persona Non Grata, ordering them to leave within a week.
  • Withdrawal of Indian Defence, Navy, and Air Advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.
  • Reduction of diplomatic staff in both countries’ High Commissions from 55 to 30 by May 1, 2025.

Background: The Pahalgam Attack

On April 22, armed terrorists attacked pilgrims at Baisaran Meadow in Pahalgam, Kashmir.
The attack resulted in 25 Indian and one Nepali fatality, making it one of the deadliest assaults since the 2019 Pulwama bombing that killed 40 CRPF personnel.
