Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Urges Citizens To Stop Throwing Roti On Roads, Calls for Responsible Feeding Of Animals

New Delhi [India], April 12: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday issued a heartfelt appeal to the public, urging them to stop throwing roti and other food items onto roads, citing both cultural reverence and public safety concerns.

The CM shared a personal encounter from earlier in the day, where she witnessed a man toss roti from his car—presumably to feed a cow. She stopped to speak with him and emphasized that such acts, though well-meaning, often endanger both animal and human lives by drawing animals onto busy roads.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Gupta wrote,

“Roti is not just food for us; it is a symbol of our culture, faith, and respect. Throwing it on the road not only disrespects food but also lures cows and other animals onto streets, putting their lives—and those of drivers and pedestrians—at risk.”

She advocated for feeding animals in designated places like gaushalas (cow shelters), promoting more responsible and mindful behavior.

“Food should not be disrespected. If you want to feed animals, please do so at a Gaushala or designated place. This reflects our sensitivity, responsibility, and values,” she added.

In her message, Gupta encouraged all Delhi residents to maintain both dignity toward food and vigilance on the roads, urging:

“I appeal to all Delhiites: Do not throw roti or any food on the road. Feed animals lovingly but responsibly. Respect your culture and keep your roads safe. #RoadSafety”

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister also extended warm greetings on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti. She visited the Sankat Mochan Dham, Siddh Hanuman Mandir in Karol Bagh, where she offered prayers and interacted with the public.

“From Ram Navami to Hanuman Jayanti, people across the country are celebrating with joy. I am fortunate to be with you as your Chief Minister, sharing in both your happiness and challenges. With Hanumanji’s grace and Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji’s blessings, we will continue working to make Delhi a better city,” Gupta told reporters during her visit.
