Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Meets Amit Shah Before First Delhi Assembly Session; BJP To Table CAG Report On Day 2

New Delhi (India), February 23: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday, just one day before the Delhi Assembly’s inaugural session under the newly-formed government. The session is set to commence on February 24, marking the swearing-in of all the newly-elected Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and the election of the new speaker.

  • First Day of Assembly: On February 24, the session will begin with the swearing-in of the MLAs and the election of the speaker.
  • BJP to Table CAG Report: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) plans to table the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) report on the second day of the session, February 25. The report, which became a major talking point during Delhi’s election campaign, highlights a revenue loss of Rs 2,026 crore due to irregularities in the Delhi government’s excise policy.
  • BJP Confident of Exposing Corruption: BJP MLA Harish Khurana expressed confidence that the CAG report would uncover the truth behind alleged corruption in the AAP-led government, mentioning issues related to the excise policy, the renovation of the CM’s residence (termed “Sheesh Mahal”), and other policies.
  • AAP’s Response: AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar hit back at the BJP, accusing them of imposing their agenda instead of addressing promises made during the election campaign. She reminded the BJP of their unfulfilled pledge to provide Rs 2,500 monthly for every woman in Delhi, urging them to focus on delivering on their commitments instead.

As the session progresses, the BJP and AAP are expected to engage in intense debates, particularly over the findings of the CAG report.
