New Delhi [India], May 16: Marking the 50th anniversary of Sikkim’s Statehood, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with Ministers Ashish Sood and Kapil Mishra, led a special celebration at the Delhi Secretariat on Friday.
The Chief Minister extended heartfelt wishes to the people of Sikkim and announced that the Delhi government will celebrate important state days of all Indian states as festivals to honor the country’s diversity.
“Delhi represents the soul of India, where people from every corner of the nation reside. I warmly congratulate the people of Sikkim on their Statehood Day. I assure full support and care for all Sikkimese residents living in Delhi,” CM Gupta said.
The event underscored Delhi’s commitment to celebrating India’s cultural pluralism while also recognizing the contributions of the Sikkimese community in the capital.
President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed their greetings on the historic occasion.
“Warm greetings to the people of Sikkim on Statehood Day… I wish the residents a future filled with prosperity,” President Murmu posted on X.
“Sikkim is associated with serene beauty, rich cultural traditions, and industrious people. May the state continue to prosper,” PM Modi said in his message.
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang also expressed gratitude to the nation, stating:
“We are proud to be a part of the world’s largest democracy. We are safe, protected, and secure as a small but significant state in the Indian Union.”
In Gangtok, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) hosted a ‘Tiranga Rally’, celebrating the day with patriotic fervor and acknowledging the bravery of the Indian Armed Forces, particularly lauding their success in Operation Sindoor.
To commemorate the 50th Statehood Day, the Sikkim government launched several initiatives:
- “Festivals of Sikkim” magazine highlighting the state’s vibrant festivals and cultural diversity.
- The “Visit Sikkim” mobile app, designed to enhance tourism by offering digital access to key destinations, local events, and travel resources.
