Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Inspects Waterlogging Sites, Cracks Down On Schools Over Fee Hikes And Dummy Admissions

New Delhi, April 18– Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, alongside PWD Minister Parvesh Verma, conducted a detailed inspection of waterlogging-prone areas in the capital on Friday, including the infamous Minto Bridge, known for past flooding incidents.

Standing at the site, CM Gupta recalled the alarming incident of a bus getting submerged in previous monsoon seasons and assured that measures were in place to prevent a repeat.

“Automatic pumps have been installed, and water pump operators will be on duty 24/7 during the rainy season,” she said.

In another major move, the Delhi government has launched a city-wide inspection of schools, focusing on issues of dummy schooling and EWS student neglect. Under the supervision of District Magistrates and officials from the Directorate of Education, 10 schools have been issued notices, and derecognition proceedings are underway against serious violators.

Dummy schooling, where students remain enrolled on paper while skipping regular classes for competitive coaching, has come under intense scrutiny. Authorities have already flagged at least 20 schools for allegedly operating such schemes.

This crackdown follows a Jan Samvaad session at the CM’s residence, where concerned parents raised the issue of arbitrary fee hikes in private schools. One prominent case involved Queen Mary School in Model Town. CM Gupta immediately ordered the Education Department to investigate and issue notices where necessary.

“No school will be allowed to jeopardize a child’s future. We will take strict action against institutions violating the rules,” said CM Gupta.

The dual action reflects the Delhi government’s renewed focus on civic preparedness and educational accountability ahead of the monsoon and upcoming academic sessions.
