Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Assures COVID-19 Preparedness Amid Rise In Cases; 100-Day Report Card To Be Released Soon

New Delhi [India], May 26: Amid a slight uptick in COVID-19 cases across the country, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday assured citizens that all city hospitals are fully equipped and there is no cause for panic.

Addressing the media, Gupta stated, “The government has taken full cognisance of the COVID cases. Our hospitals are fully prepared; there is no need to panic. We are keeping an eye on the situation.”

Her statement comes as India reported 1,009 active COVID-19 cases, including 752 new infections, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Among the states, Kerala has the highest number of active cases (430), followed by Maharashtra (209), Delhi (104), Gujarat (83), and Karnataka (47).

Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava held a review meeting on Saturday to assess the COVID-19 situation, especially in the worst-affected states including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Karnataka.

CM Gupta also announced that the Delhi government, led by the BJP, will present its 100-day report card to the public on May 31.

“The Delhi government is working 24/7 in these 100 days. When our government completes 100 days on the 30th of May, we will also hand over our report card to the public on the 31st… We will give details of all the work we have done,” she said.

Highlighting improvements in civic infrastructure, Gupta pointed to the success in mitigating waterlogging issues in Delhi despite heavy rainfall.

“Delhi had been battling the problem of waterlogging for years, but this time, even after three record-breaking rains, the situation in the city was under control, and the water drained out within an hour. The amount of desilting that has happened in Delhi is historic… It will be completely cleaned in the coming days,” she added.

With COVID-19 cases on the rise, the government continues to monitor the situation closely, while emphasizing preparedness and transparency in governance.
