New Delhi [India]: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta welcomed well-wishers at her residence on Thursday morning as she prepared to propose BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht for the position of Deputy Speaker in the Delhi Assembly.
The List of Business of the Legislative Assembly, released on Wednesday, confirmed that CM Rekha Gupta would move the motion:
“That, Mohan Singh Bisht, a Hon’ble Member of this House be chosen as the Deputy Speaker of this House.”
Additionally, a second motion will be proposed by MLA Anil Kumar Sharma and supported by Gajender Singh Yadav to reinforce Bisht’s nomination:
“Anil Kumar Sharma, Hon’ble Member, to move the following motion: ‘That, Shri Mohan Singh Bisht, a Hon’ble Member of this House be chosen as the Deputy Speaker of this House.’ Shri Gajender Singh Yadav, Hon’ble Member, to second the Motion.”
Meanwhile, the Delhi Assembly is set to discuss the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report titled “Performance Audit Report on Regulation and Supply of Liquor in Delhi”.
On Tuesday, CM Rekha Gupta presented the CAG report on the liquor policy in the Assembly. Ahead of the session, she chaired a meeting with BJP MLAs to strategize discussions on the report and ensure the smooth functioning of the House.
The report’s presentation triggered a strong reaction from the opposition, who demanded a wider investigation into the alleged liquor policy scam.
The CAG report, covering the period from 2017-18 to 2020-21, assesses the regulation and distribution of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and foreign liquor in Delhi. It is one of 14 pending CAG reports related to the performance of the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.
With discussions set to unfold in the Assembly, tensions are expected to rise over allegations of irregularities in Delhi’s liquor policy, making this a key political development in the capital.
