New Delhi [India], April 14: The Delhi Capitals (DC) have equalled an unwanted record in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after their 12-run loss to Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday.
The defeat marked Delhi’s 45th loss at their home ground, bringing them level with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who have also lost 45 matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, making them the joint holders of the record for most home defeats in IPL history.
Despite a remarkable 89-run knock by Karun Nair on his IPL comeback, Delhi Capitals faltered in the final overs of their chase, suffering a dramatic batting collapse, which included a hat-trick of run-outs. The team finished at 193/10 in 19 overs, falling short of Mumbai’s 205-run target.
This loss also ended DC’s four-match winning streak and placed them second on the IPL 2025 points table. Meanwhile, MI climbed to seventh, with two wins and four losses.
Alongside DC and RCB, other teams with notable home defeats include:
- Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) – 38 losses at Eden Gardens
- Mumbai Indians (MI) – 34 losses at Wankhede Stadium
In the first innings, Tilak Varma anchored Mumbai’s batting with a solid half-century, supported by aggressive cameos from Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir, helping MI post 205/5 in 20 overs.
DC’s run chase got off to a nightmare start as Jake Fraser-McGurk was dismissed for a golden duck, caught by Will Jacks off Deepak Chahar on the very first ball. Other than Karun Nair and Abishek Porel (33 runs), the rest of the DC lineup crumbled under pressure.
The game’s dramatic finish saw three consecutive run-outs, including Mohit Sharma being run out for zero, which sealed a stunning win for Mumbai Indians.
As the IPL 2025 season progresses, Delhi Capitals will need to regroup quickly and improve their performance at home to avoid further slipping in the standings—and possibly breaking a record no team wants.
