Delhi Building Collapse In Mustafabad: 4 Dead, 14 Rescued, Several Feared Trapped

At least four people lost their lives, and 14 others were rescued after a four-storey building collapsed in the Mustafabad area of Delhi in the early hours of Saturday, according to Delhi Police officials. Rescue operations are still underway, with around eight individuals feared trapped under the debris.

The tragic incident occurred around 3:00 am, prompting a swift response from Delhi Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Delhi Fire Service.

Officials Speak:

Sandeep Lamba, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East Delhi), said:

“Fourteen people were rescued, but four among them succumbed to their injuries. Rescue operations are still underway, and around 8–10 people are feared trapped.”

Divisional Fire Officer Rajendra Atwal told media:

“We received the call about the house collapse at 2:50 am. On arrival, we found the entire building had collapsed, with several people trapped beneath. NDRF, Delhi Fire Service, and other rescue teams are working round the clock.”

Ongoing Rescue Operations

Specialized teams are using sniffer dogs, thermal cameras, and cranes to locate and extract survivors from the rubble. Emergency medical aid is being provided on the spot, while injured victims are being rushed to nearby hospitals.

Context and Recent Incidents

This tragedy follows a similar structural collapse reported on April 11, when a wall of an under-construction building near Madhu Vihar police station collapsed during a dust storm, killing one and injuring two others.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns over building safety and construction practices in densely populated areas of the capital.
