With less than a week left for the Delhi Assembly elections, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva launched an attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), stating that the party has become “AAP-da” in the national capital.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on AAP’s internal discord, Sachdeva said, “Aam Aadmi Party has become AAP-da in Delhi. The prime minister has rightly said that all the straws of the broom (AAP’s party symbol) have scattered.”
On Sunday, PM Narendra Modi expressed confidence in the BJP forming the next government in Delhi. Taking a dig at AAP’s symbol, the broom, he remarked, “Jhaadu ke tinke bikhar rahe hai” (Parts of the broomstick are splintering), alluding to the party’s struggles following mass resignations.
Just ahead of the February 5 elections, eight AAP MLAs resigned after being denied tickets to contest the polls, further deepening the crisis within the party.
Addressing a public rally at RK Puram, PM Modi compared the upcoming elections to Basant Panchami, suggesting that Delhi would witness a “new spring of development.”
“In a few days, a new spring of development will arrive in Delhi. This time, the BJP government is about to be formed in Delhi. The ‘AAP-da party’ has wasted 11 years. My biggest request is that we should be given a chance to serve the people of Delhi. I promise to go to any length to remove every difficulty you face,” he said.
He further assured voters that a “double-engine government”—a term used to describe BJP’s governance at both state and central levels—would bring prosperity to Delhi’s poor and middle-class families.
The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with vote counting set for February 8.
