New Delhi [India]: Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva launched a scathing attack on the AAP government, accusing the party of attempting to “lure, distract, and divert” public attention from key issues in the national capital. He expressed confidence that the election results would favor the BJP’s “double-engine” government.
“People of Delhi have chosen the path of development, and the result will be in BJP’s favor,” said Sachdeva while speaking to media.
BJP Confident of Victory in Delhi
Sachdeva credited BJP workers’ resilience and passion for the party’s performance, stating, “We believe the result will be in favor of the BJP. Feedback from our party workers and early trends suggest that a double-engine government is being formed in Delhi.”
Taking a dig at the AAP, he added, “Jhoot ke paon nahi hote” (Lies don’t last long).
He further criticized AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh, stating, “Their statements yesterday indicate they know they are going to lose. For the past 1.5 years, the BJP has ensured that Kejriwal cannot escape accountability.”
He accused Kejriwal’s government of mishandling issues such as:
- Liquor scam
- Air and water pollution
- Poor road conditions
- Alleged misuse of funds in the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ renovation
- Overflowing sewage problems
“AAP has tried to lure, distract, and divert public attention from these issues. Today, the people of Delhi will decide between development and corruption,” Sachdeva asserted.
On the question of the BJP’s Chief Ministerial face, he stated, “The central leadership will decide. It doesn’t matter to us. Those who betray people will be treated accordingly by voters.”
BJP Takes Early Lead in Delhi Assembly Elections
As per early trends from the Election Commission, the BJP has crossed the majority mark, currently leading on 38 seats, while the AAP is ahead on 27 seats.
With 70 assembly seats in Delhi, the majority mark required to form the government is 36.
Polling took place on February 5, recording a voter turnout of 60.54%.
AAP’s Struggle for a Third Term Against BJP’s Aggressive Campaign
The AAP is fighting for a third consecutive term, while the BJP aims to reclaim power after more than two decades.
Most exit polls gave the BJP an edge over AAP, though AAP leaders remain confident and believe the exit polls have historically underestimated their performance.
The BJP’s campaign, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aggressively targeted AAP over:
- Alleged pollution in the Yamuna River
- Renovation of Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence
Key Battleground: New Delhi Constituency
A high-profile contest is taking place in New Delhi, where:
- Arvind Kejriwal (AAP) is facing challenges from
- Parvesh Verma (BJP) and
- Sandeep Dikshit (Congress)
As counting progresses, all eyes remain on the final results, which will determine whether AAP retains its stronghold or BJP secures a long-awaited comeback in the national capital.
