New Delhi [India]: The first session of the Delhi Assembly commenced on Monday with BJP MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely taking the oath as Protem Speaker at Raj Niwas. The oath was administered by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. The election for the Speaker is scheduled for 2 PM later in the day.
Marking the beginning of a new government, BJP leaders shared their thoughts on the session. Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa criticized the previous administration, stating, “A new chapter will be written today. AAP-DA has ruined Delhi for the last 12 years. Now, we have the opportunity to take Delhi towards a ‘Viksit Delhi’ (Developed Delhi). Today, the CAG report will also be tabled, exposing corruption under Arvind Kejriwal over the last three years.”
Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra described the day as “historic,” emphasizing that the people of Delhi have reclaimed power. “Corruption has an expiry date, and today marks its end. Under CM Rekha Gupta’s leadership, we now have a government that will truly work for the people,” he said.
Similarly, Minister Ashish Sood highlighted the BJP’s priorities, including clean water, improved sewage systems, better roads, and air quality. “For the last 10 years, water issues have been a nightmare for Delhi residents. Addressing this will be our first priority,” Sood stated.
Meanwhile, large crowds gathered outside newly elected Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s residence on Monday morning to greet her. Gupta, who was sworn in as CM on Thursday, wasted no time in setting her agenda. She chaired her first cabinet meeting the same day, announcing two major decisions: the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme with a ₹5 lakh top-up and the tabling of 14 pending CAG reports in the Assembly.
According to the Delhi Assembly bulletin, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena will address the Assembly on February 25. The session will then see the presentation of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports, followed by a motion of thanks on the LG’s address. On February 26, discussions on the motion of thanks will begin at 11:00 AM, and later, the election of the Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly will take place.
