Delhi Assembly Speaker Raises Concerns Over CAG Report On Excise Policy, Anticipates Upcoming Health Services Report

New Delhi, February 28 : Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta voiced concerns on Friday regarding the tabled Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on the excise policy, which highlighted a revenue loss of approximately Rs 2,000 crore. The Speaker expressed shock over the findings, calling the data in the report “shocking.” Gupta’s comments came after Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta tabled the CAG report on the Delhi Excise Policy in the Assembly on Tuesday. The report, titled Performance Audit on Regulation and Supply of Liquor in Delhi, spans a period of four years from 2017-18 to 2020-21, analyzing the regulation and supply of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and Foreign Liquor in the capital.

The report reveals significant financial losses, raising concerns about the effectiveness of the excise policy in Delhi. In response, Speaker Gupta questioned the management and implementation of the policy, which has led to a substantial revenue shortfall.

Additionally, Gupta discussed the upcoming CAG report on Public Health Infrastructure & Management of Health Services, which he confirmed would be tabled in the Assembly at around 3 pm on the same day. The report, expected to provide an in-depth review of government hospitals and health services in Delhi, is anticipated to expose discrepancies between the claims made by the previous government and the actual ground realities. The assessment will cover various aspects of healthcare services, including the availability of medical equipment, supply of medicines, staffing levels, and the quality of patient care.

This report will also examine the effective allocation and spending of the Delhi government’s budget in the health sector. The upcoming CAG report will be the second such audit report to be presented in the Assembly.

The Delhi Assembly session has been extended by two days until March 1 to accommodate the presentation of these crucial reports.
