New Delhi [India], January 10: Terminal 2 of Delhi Airport will undergo a major refurbishment starting in April, with work expected to take approximately six months. Originally constructed 40 years ago by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the terminal will be upgraded under the leadership of GMR Airports Limited and Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL).
The refurbishment aims to modernize key areas of the terminal and surrounding infrastructure, ensuring that T2 remains a top-tier facility, able to meet the growing demands of passengers while supporting the airport’s expansion.
Part of DIAL’s long-term commitment to transforming Delhi Airport into a world-class hub, the project includes upgrading the terminal’s infrastructure to accommodate the increasing air traffic in India and Southeast Asia. Notable improvements will include the addition of autonomous passenger boarding bridges, advanced aerobridges, new skylight designs, improved ceilings, flooring, and better road connectivity.
As passenger traffic is expected to reach peak capacity by FY 2025-26, these upgrades are essential to support the growing number of domestic passengers. According to Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO of DIAL, “The refurbishment of the four-decade-old Terminal 2 is the need of the hour. We are committed to enhancing the overall passenger experience and operational efficiency.”
The refurbishment work is expected to begin in the new fiscal year (FY 2025-26) and will be completed by the second quarter of the fiscal year. During the renovation, Terminal 2 will temporarily close for around 4 to 6 months, with operations shifting to the newly developed Terminal 1 to minimize disruption.
