“Qatar Assured Their Commitment…”: Says Anurag Thakur, Reaffirms India’s Zero Tolerance On Terrorism

Doha [Qatar]: An Indian all-party parliamentary delegation, led by NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule, reaffirmed India and Qatar’s shared commitment to combating terrorism during a high-level diplomatic visit to Doha on Monday.

The multi-party group, which includes MPs from across the political spectrum, engaged with top Qatari officials to highlight India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism, particularly in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

India’s Unified Message on Terrorism

Union Minister and BJP MP Anurag Thakur, part of the delegation, emphasized India’s cross-party consensus on the issue of terrorism.

“Our delegation, comprising representatives from different political parties and ideologies, is united in delivering one clear message across the globe: India has a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism,” Thakur said in a statement to ANI.

He added that India has made it clear—“Trade and terror cannot go together, talks and terror cannot go hand in hand, and blood and water cannot flow together.”

Thakur further stated that Operation Sindoor has set a “new benchmark” in how India responds to acts of terror. The operation, conducted on May 7, involved precision military strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK), following the killing of 26 tourists by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists.

“If Pakistan takes similar steps in the future, India’s response will be decisive and delivered at the right time and place,” Thakur warned.

Meetings with Qatari Officials and Joint Commitments

The delegation met with several senior Qatari leaders, including:

  • Dr. Mohamed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs,
  • Minister of State for Interior, and
  • Deputy Speaker of the Qatari Council.

During these engagements, the Indian representatives outlined Pakistan’s failure to act against 52 terror-linked individuals and entities and urged Qatar to support India’s efforts in shaping a united global stance against terrorism.

“Qatar, too, acknowledged that terrorism benefits no one, and they stand with us in this fight. Together, we are sending a clear message: we are united against terrorism,” Thakur noted.

Supriya Sule: ‘Trip Marked by Unity and Shared Purpose’

Lead delegate Supriya Sule affirmed Qatar’s support for India’s position on terrorism and praised the productive discussions.

“Qatar has assured their commitment to zero tolerance against terrorism. They promised us that any terrorist attack anywhere in the world will be opposed,” Sule stated. “This trip has been extraordinarily successful. The Qatar government has been very hospitable, and both nations are aligned for decades to come.”

Part of a Wider Diplomatic Outreach

The current visit to Qatar is part of a broader multi-nation diplomatic mission by India to build global consensus against cross-border terrorism and counter Pakistan’s narrative on the international stage.

The delegation includes:

  • Rajiv Pratap Rudy (BJP),
  • Manish Tewari (Congress),
  • V Muraleedharan (BJP),
  • Vikramjit Singh Sahney (AAP),
  • Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu (TDP),
  • Anand Sharma (Congress),
  • Former diplomat Syed Akbaruddin, and others from CPI-M, AITC, and independent groups.

The next legs of the delegation’s tour include Egypt, Ethiopia, and South Africa, followed by outreach in East Asian countries.

Indian Embassy Confirms Qatari Solidarity

In a post on X, the Indian Embassy in Doha confirmed the meetings and reiterated that Qatari leadership expressed solidarity with India’s position.

“The multi-party delegation met HE Dr. Mohamed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, MoS for Foreign Affairs and conveyed India’s perspectives on the Pahalgam terrorist attack, Operation Sindoor, and the national consensus for zero-tolerance against terrorism,” the embassy said.

The Qatari minister reportedly assured Qatar’s policy of zero tolerance against terrorism and emphasized the importance of regional stability and prosperity.
