In a proud moment for India, Deepika Padukone became the first Indian woman to be inducted into the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame, joining the Class of 2026 alongside global names like Emily Blunt, Timothee Chalamet, Rami Malek, and Rachel McAdams.
Known internationally for her role in XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, Deepika’s recognition marks a milestone not only in her career but also in India’s global cinematic presence.
Contrary to Popular Belief, Walk of Fame Stars Cannot Be ‘Bought’
While viral rumors suggested that celebrities could buy their way onto the Walk of Fame, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce clarified that all inductees are chosen based on merit.
“The induction and selection do not involve any fees or payment,” the Walk’s official site states. A selection panel reviews 200–300 nominations annually to curate the list.
So Why Do Celebs Pay?
Though selection is merit-based, recipients are required to pay a sponsorship fee of $85,000 (approximately ₹73 lakh). This covers the creation, installation, and ongoing maintenance of the star.
“The fee is used to pay for the creation and installation of the star, as well as maintenance of the Walk of Fame,” reads the official policy.
What Makes a Star Eligible?
There’s no strict rulebook, but the inductee must be a recognized celebrity who has made a lasting impact on entertainment—be it in film, television, music, radio, or live performance. The title is considered an honor, not a popularity contest.
The 2026 Walk of Fame Class also includes Marion Cotillard, Stanley Tucci, Demi Moore, Tony Scott, and Greg Daniels, highlighting a diverse and accomplished slate of artists.
India on the Global Map
Deepika’s star not only cements her global influence but also signals growing Indian visibility on the international entertainment stage. As a celebrated actor, producer, and global ambassador for multiple brands, her induction represents a significant cultural moment.
From Bollywood to Hollywood, Deepika continues to shatter ceilings—and now, her name is etched into the very streets of Hollywood.
