Deepika Padukone Expresses Disappointment Over India’s Oscar Snubs, Shares Emotional Moment At 2023 Academy Awards

Mumbai, March 24: Actress Deepika Padukone voiced her frustration over India’s repeated Oscar snubs, highlighting that many deserving Indian films have failed to receive the recognition they deserve at the prestigious awards.

Taking to Instagram, Deepika shared a video of herself preparing for a Louis Vuitton show in Paris, where she reminisced about her experience at the 2023 Academy Awards when RRR won Best Original Song for its chart-topping number “Naatu Naatu.” The actress expressed her deep emotions, recalling how she felt when the win was announced.

“India has been robbed of the Oscars many times. Many, many deserving movies, I feel, have been snubbed. Whether it’s movies, whether it’s talent… But I remember being in the audience when they announced RRR, and I got emotional. Outside of being an Indian, I had nothing to do with that movie, but that was a huge, huge moment. That felt very, very personal,” Deepika said.

The Chennai Express star also shared her thoughts on this year’s Oscars, revealing that the one victory that made her especially happy was Adrien Brody’s Best Actor win for The Brutalist. In the video, clips from critically acclaimed Indian films such as All We Imagine As Light, Laapataa Ladies, Tumbbad, and The Lunchbox—which garnered international acclaim but were not nominated—were featured, underlining the many Indian films that didn’t make the cut for the Oscars.

Deepika was in Paris attending the Louis Vuitton show at the Cour Carré du Louvre. As a global ambassador for both Louis Vuitton and Cartier, she became the first Indian actress to be signed by these prestigious brands.
